A shoe vamp indicates where the shoe ends on top of your foot giving support, class and security to the foot while in the shoe. The style of a shoe vamp depends on style of shoe which in turn affects how a shoe should be worn.

Common Types of Shoes with Higher Vamp

A higher vamp shoe comes over your ankle bone giving more support and stability. It tends to shorten the length of your toes.

Some common shoe styles with high vamps are

  • Loafers
  • Gladiators
  • Oxfords
  • Mary Janes

Common Types of Shoes with Lower Vamp

A lower vamp shoe has a vamp lower than the ankle. The material of a low vamp shoe stops once your toes are covered as it tends to elongate the length of your legs.

Some common types are

  • Cone heels
  • Ballet flats
  • Knee high boots
  • Pumps
  • Havana style thongs
  • Flip flips
  • Pumps

Note the knee high boots though comes over the ankle. However, it is still seen as a lower vamp shoe as it tends to create long lines from thigh to toe thus giving the leg a longer look.

How to Wear Shoes with Higher Vamp

Paying attention to shoe vamps can help your legs appear taller and look longer depending on one’s choice

While shoes with higher shoe vamp could either be closed or simply have straps to the ankle, it’s still necessary to know how shoes with higher vamp should be worn.

Loafers

It’s known for its style simplicity and versatility as it could definitely be worn with anything but still not just anything.

A pair of skinny jeans with a button-down shirt gives a sleek and streamlined look when paired with minimal loafers. Cropped pants and mini or midi dresses could also work perfectly with the loafers.

Loafers are of varied types but I’d list a few and they are:

Penny loafers, heeled loafers, embellished loafers, woven and leather loafers.

Gladiators:

They’re flat sandals with varied wide across straps holding the sole to the foot with one wide strap around their ankle.

A fitted mini gown, denim shorts with crop tops are just perfect combination for the gladiators. Miniskirts and flay mini gowns with a waist belt is another way to rock the gladiators with a high vamp. You can further elongate the appearance of your legs by wearing heeled gladiators with skinny jeans.

Oxfords:

Unlike the loafers, oxfords are elegant dress shoes with a closed lacing system concealed within the upper part of the shoe. They tend to present a formal and professional look.

As much as they suit a formal dress, they could also be worn with jeans. Though great attention has to be given to the color of both the shoes and jeans.

A buttoned down shirt with a grey or brown blazer on suit pants could give a super trendy look. A black jumper with a light brown coat for winter gives a fantastic look with the oxford shoes on. Black leather Oxfords with a modern, zip fastener curved across the upper, with your frayed blue jeans, and a plain, white tee-shirt. Then add a super-trendy cardigan coat, which reaches right down to your ankles.

Wear your jeans cuffed to reveal a little bit of flesh.

Mary Janes

It’s a classic feminine shoe style known for its simplicity. It’s certainly an elegant fit for winter.

Leggings under mini skirt with a cardigan and a simple flat Mary Jane. Denim and T-shirt are another combination that suits the Mary Jane fashion style. Mini skirt with long sleeved turtle neck tucked in blends well with a low heel Mary Jane heel. A pair of pointed Mary Jane heels with pleated skirt gives that polished look of being stylish without wearing expensive brands.

A pair of socks with your shoes especially colored ones gives attention to your shoe and adding that up to your fanciful fashion would look amazing.

How to Wear Shoes with Lower Vamp

A low vamp shoe gives the foot more exposure; creating a streamlined look as women with shorter legs opt for shoes with low vamps.

Cone heels

Cone Heel is a heel having an ice-cream cone shape that scoops you up onto your toes.

You could pair a leather jacket on casual jeans with contrasting colour of cone heel ankle boots, fitted jeans with plain shirts. A cone heel could add an even more classic look when worn with a stoned mini black dress. White t-shirt on plain white pants also makes a good combination with cone heels. A simple Ankara print dress too works perfectly.

Ballet flats

They’re closed-toe flat shoes known to be anatomic and fashionable resembling the ones worn by ballet dancers.

They are almost perfect with everything ranging from leggings and long sweaters to short skirts and jackets. Styling them with a belted shirt dress could give an even more professional look.

Knee high boot

They’re long boots fully or partly covering the knee.

Pairing a pencil skirt with a button down shirt tucked in would give that simple and stylish look as pencil skirt tends to give the figure a slim look as the shoe elongates the leg. Flowing dresses that stop right below the knee, a bodycon black dress as well gives an elegant look are fashionable ideas for the knee high boots.

Pumps

Pumps are usually wider and between 2 and 3 inches in height. They’re typically low-cut around the front.

Nude pants with a V-necked top, Black denim with turtle neck top alongside a blue jean jacket, off shoulder bodycon dress, short and a sleeveless top with a hat over the head, Jean with sleeveless crop top are all perfect ways to rock your pumps.

Havaiana style thongs/ flip flops

They are simple and comfortable slippers that could be worn for casual wear.

They are perfect for the beach, a stroll and even indoors. Linen fabrics, printed trousers and plain shirts, oversized button down trouser and shirt are very simple ways to rock your low vamp flip flops.
