Structured blazer

It may seem like a blaze doesn’t really do much in slimming your figure, but a structured, well-fitted piece can make a whole world of a difference! It can give you a sleek silhouette by defining the waist and shoulders in a subtle way, enhancing your best features.

Button-down denim skirt

The vertical placement of the buttons can be a very flattering choice for it creates a line that elongates the legs, while the denim fabric provides structure to your look. Try to pair it with a tucked-in blouse or top to further define the waist and create a slimming effect.

Flat front pants

Flat front pants with no zipper, buttons, or gathers are great for minimizing bulk around the midsection area. Wearing this style provides a smooth, streamlined look that elongates your entire frame.

Flowy V-neck shirt

Just look at how comfy this flowy V-neck shirt is! The relaxed fit makes it more accommodating while the open neckline draws attention to the neckline and collarbone, creating that vertical line that elongates the torso.

Monochromatic outfit

Wearing an outfit in one color from head to toe can create a long, uninterrupted line that visually slims the body. This also help create a more streamlined appearance that conceals any midsection bulk you may be concerned about.

Pleated pants

While pleats can sometimes add volume, they can also be strategically placed to create a flattering silhouette that’s visually slimming. For women in their 50s, pleats that start at the waist and open towards the hips can camouflage any midsection concerns and create the illusion of a slimmer waistline.

Satin wrap top

Wrap tops in general are very flattering because of how it cinches the waist without the overly snug fit. For women in their 50s, the draping effect can provide comfort and the satin fabric can be a great choice for someone who prefers elegant pieces.

Scoop neck shirt

Open necklines are very slimming and one of the best ones out there is the scoop neck shirt because it draws attention upwards towards the face and collarbone. A wider scoop neckline also tends to broaden the shoulders just slightly, balancing out the proportions of the body and creating a more streamlined silhouette.

Skirt with slit

A skirt with a slit can be visually slimming for women in their 50s because it adds vertical lines to the outfit, elongating the legs and creating the illusion of height. The slit also allows for ease of movement and adds a touch of sophistication to the look.

Straight leg jeans

The classic charm of straight leg jeans can be your go-to piece because they create a long, lean line from hip to ankle. Unlike skinny jeans that are too tight,, straight leg jeans offer a more balanced silhouette.

Thick heels

Thick heels, such as block heels or stacked heels, can be a stylish and comfortable option for women in their 50s. Not only are they more comfortable than the usual high heels, they also add height by visually elongating the legs without the discomfort.

A-Line dress

The A-line dress is a timeless silhouette known for its ability to flatter a variety of body types. The fitted bodice and the gently flared skirt work together to create a balanced shape that accentuates the waist while providing a graceful flow from top to bottom.

All-black outfit

Opting for an all-black ensemble is a tried-and-true technique for achieving a sleek and polished look! Black is universally flattering and has an excellent slimming effect due to its ability to absorb light and smooth out bulges.

Dark-colored wrap dress

As mentioned earlier, the wrap dress will always be a great choice for its figure-flattering silhouette that enhances the natural curves of the body. Deeper colors such as navy or burgundy can further accentuate its slimming properties by creating a more elongated silhouette.

Fit and flare dress

If there’s another dress silhouette that you need to consistently shop for in your 50s, that would be the fit and flare dress! It is a feminine and flattering style that celebrates the waistline while providing a graceful flow from top to bottom to give you that balanced, slim look.

Black pants

Black pants should be one of your wardrobe essentials especially if you’re aiming to look slimmer. Their dark hue is inherently slimming and it’s also very easy to pair with a number of different clothing pieces.

Flared pants

Flared pants offer a retro-inspired silhouette that can really make your outfit even more interesting and trendy. But apart from this, their flared hemline also elongates the legs and creates a balanced silhouette.

Half-tucked top

Instead of going for the usual full tuck, try doing the half-tuck trick! Wearing a half-tucked top is a styling technique that adds dimension to your outfit while highlighting the waistline and without the discomfort of limited movement.

High waisted pants

High-waisted pants are a figure-flattering wardrobe staple that accentuates the waistline and elongates the legs. Their elevated waistline is the key to making this piece work like magic, as it gives you the illusion of height in an instant!

Pleated skirt

The pleats on the skirt create vertical lines that draw the eyes up and down in an uninterrupted manner. Additionally, the subtle movement of the pleats adds dimension, contributing to an elegant and effortless slimming effect.

Tailored sheath dress

Renowned for its sophisticated but very simple look, the tailored sheath dress works wonderfully in contouring the body by emphasizing curves and maintaining a streamlined appearance. Its structured design accentuates the waist and elongates the torso, presenting a polished and refined silhouette.

Trench coat

The iconic trench coat is an enduring wardrobe staple that can easily elevate any outfit pairing you wear! In terms of slimming, the coat’s length provides vertical lines and its structure enhances your features such as the shoulders to create a more modelesque figure.

Vertical stripes

Of course, we have to mention vertical stripes in a post that talks about slimming because this is one of the best ways to do it! It simply serves as a strategic design element to visually elongate the body, imparting a sense of height and slimness.

Wide leg pants

Wide leg pants offer a sophisticated solution for elongating the silhouette and creating a more elongated and polished appearance. The fluidity of the wide legs skims over the hips and thighs, while the elongated silhouette further accentuates height and elegance, making them a versatile choice for various occasions.
